This piece was inspired by a blue on black (pencil) drawing I did that featured the character. This developed into the concept of 'the moonlight encounter'. The story:
Wandering on a moonlit night somewhere in 'the east' you come across a temple complex. The moonlight becomes more intens and seems to 'activate' you and your surroundings. As you approach the temple 'an ancient warrior' suddenly appears in front of you. "Who is he? Is he friend or foe? What's real and what's not...?"

The architecture is inspired by Indo-Chinese/Cambodian/Thai architecture. The character is mainly chinese; Qin/Xian dynasty. My aim was to create and accentuate the feeling of the warrior suddenly appearing by directing focus and to really nail the feel of moonlit, 'magic', scene by playing with texture, detail and HDR type effects.
